Introduction

The next auction will be held on a date to be announced. It will held in Peterborough at the Dragonfly Hotel (formerly Quality Hotel and Ramada Hotel) in Thorpe Meadows. This is approximately one mile from the railway station. Viewing at the hotel is available on the actual auction date from 10 a.m. and the sale will commence at 1.00 p.m. sharp. Earlier viewing during office hours (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) on the day prior to the sale can be arranged by appointment.

Our Auctioneers Terms and Conditions are available by e-mail upon request.

Our public auctions are usually presented in three sections: Section One (lots xx-xx) consists of a few miscellaneous oddments and some literature; Section Two (lots xx-xx) consists of mostly small size lots and Section Three (lots xx=-xx) consists of mostly large size lots. There may also be a few "Late Lots" (lots xx-xx) presented after Section Three alphabetically in country order.

The internet version of the catalogue is, however, presented purely under country headings. When a sale is current just click on your country or countries of interest and you will find all the relevant lots from all the sections listed (usually) in the lot number order of the printed version of the catalogue. There also may be a few other lots towards the end of the page with connections to the country of your choice. We do have a small search engine on the left side of the website page and this can be used to look for specific words which can be useful when searching for thematic references, destinations and the like.

Details of the services we can offer for photocopies (black and white or colour) and scans are given below under 'Important Notes'.

Please remember to mail, e-mail or fax your bid forms in early!

The Prices Realised for this auction should be published on this webpage sometime on the Monday following the sale

First, a Quick Word about our Auctions

Our estimates are “start prices” and they represent a price level at which postal bidders, who have not had the opportunity to view the lots in person, can bid with confidence knowing that they will be getting good value for money.

A few examples of how bids work in our auction follow:

Lot 1 has a "start price" of £100: Bidder A bids £160 and bidder B bids £120: The lot will be awarded to bidder A at £130

Lot 2 has a "start price" of £200: Bidder A bids £300. There are no other bids. The lot will be awarded to bidder A at £200

Lot 3 has a "start price" of £120: Bidder A bids £160, bidder B bids £120 and bidder C bids £180. The lot will be awarded to bidder C at £170

If you enter a plus sign (+) after your bid we interpret this to mean that you are prepared to go one further bidding step in order to try and secure a particular lot. Two plus signs would mean two bidding steps, etc.

Bidders are welcome to enter either/or bids and may stipulate an overall spending limit if required (excluding mailing costs). Bidders are also welcome to charge their purchases to Mastercard, Visa or American Express credit cards. We do not charge any surcharge for this service. We can also, by arrangement, accept some PayPal payments for smaller amounts but these must be made in GBP Sterling and are subject to a 4% surcharge to cover the PayPal fees. Finally, please note that we do not charge any "buyers premium" or "lot fees". There are no hidden charges. With the exception of PayPal fees, the only extra you pay on top of the hammer price is for mailing and insurance costs.

Important Notes

Our website auction catalogue includes representative illustrations of all of the lots. You can just click on the "thumbnail" picture alongside the lot description and this will open a separate window or tab in your browser with an enlarged version. Simply click the window or tab closed when you have finished viewing the item and you will be in the same place you were when you opened the window.

Do bear in mind that if there are multiple items in a lot then the website illustration will not necessarily show all the items. Please read the descriptions carefully for the full information on the numbers of items in a lot. Please also note that some scans may, of necessity, have been made through one or more layers of clear plastic that may well have seen better days so please excuse this and take into consideration any occasional slight fuzziness in the pictures.

We can also send scans of small folder size lots not fully illustrated on our website by e-mail. There is no charge for this service but we reserve the right to limit requests. For large size folder lots and multiple item lots, we do have to put a limit on the number of scan requests you can make and from these larger lots we normally offer a 10-page representation as the maximum number

If you want to exceed this number of emailed scans then we will do our best to accommodate you but the excess scans will be charged at a rate of 25p for each additional page

We do still offer to supply black and white photocopies of suitable lots at a cost of 25p per page incl. postage (Minimum charge £2). Colour copies are also available at £1 per page incl. postage.

Please note that we only accept prepaid requests on these scan and photocopy services from new clients. The easiest method of payment is to quote your credit card number, expiry date and 3-digit security number (Mastercard or Visa only). Clients that are known to us and that are regular bidders can have the copy charges added to their final auction account.

All scan and photocopy requests should be made well in advance of the sale as we may be unable to accommodate any such requests made in the five days immediately prior to the auction date

Illustrated catalogues are available through the mail on subscription for £10 (U.K. and Europe) or US $20.00 (rest of the world) for the next four issues. The easiest way to subscribe is through our electronic catalogue subscription form. Alternatively, you can post or fax us a completed copy of our printable catalogue subscription form.  If you would like a PDF version of the printed catalogue (size 12Mb) then simply send us an email with "PDF Catalogue" in the subject line and a copy will be emailed to you

A printable bid form is available on this web site. Please ensure that your bid forms are mailed in early. Alternatively they can be faxed on 01733-262838 (UK) or +44-1733-262838 (International). We also accept bids through our secure electronic bid form or through e-mail at <brian@moorhouse.com> and we will always e-mail a copy back to you as a way of acknowledging receipt.

Important: New bidders should quote full details of their name, address and telephone number and they are encouraged to quote their credit card (Visa, Mastercard or Amex) details for payments. Please note that we now need the full card number, expiry date and either the 3-digit security code printed on the signature panel on the back of the card (Visa and Mastercard) or the 4-digit security code printed on the front of the card (Amex). We also need the full billing address for the card if difrerent from the shipping address. All new bidders are sent pro-forma invoices and a pre-auction deposit may be requested at our discretion.

Insurance: We can insure items sent by registered mail inside the U.K. and to most other countries in the world. There is a small charge for buyers for postal insurance. This charge is equivalent to 1% of the value of the material purchased rounded up to the nearest £1.00. The minimum insurance charge is also £1.00

All lots purchased will be sent by registered mail unless otherwise requested and the charge for insurance cover while in transit to the delivery address will be automatically added to all invoices. However, please note that this insurance is not mandatory. We are aware that many people do have their own insurance cover. If you do not require this insurance cover simply write “no insurance required” on your mailed or emailed bid form !

We can also ship worldwide by FedEx. Please ask for details.

Thank you for your attention and we look forward to your participation !
